Publisher Spotlight: Check Out Sam

Publisher Spotlight: Look at Sam

Can you introduce yourself briefly?

Hello! My name is Sam and I am the blogger behind Check Out Sam.

I’ve been in the online community for about ten years, but the blog itself has only been my focus for about five years.

Can you introduce Check Out Sam to our readers?

When checking out Sam, I try to give as much tips and information as possible so that future travelers can start their vacation well prepared. It doesn’t matter whether you opt for a short city break or a long road trip through New Zealand, for example.

I visit all the places myself and write all my tips, itineraries and travel guides on the blog. So my readers are perfectly prepared for their vacation abroad.

As I said before, I’ve been in affiliate marketing for a while. When I started blogging, I was living abroad most of the time. However, I’ve focused more on smaller projects. Then the idea of a travel blog came to my mind and now … We are already a few years later and see where this idea has taken me!

How long have you had a relationship with Tradedoubler?

I’ve worked with Tradedoubler since the beginning of the blog. This has mainly to do with the interesting and large partners that you present in the travel industry.

In addition, I enjoy working with you and your partners because communication is quick and easy. Also not unimportant: I notice that your payout rates are slightly higher than what the competition offers.

What do you think are the biggest benefits for an advertiser working with Check out Sam?

I’ve been in affiliate marketing for ten years and I know what works. Check Out Sam is currently one of the biggest blogs in Belgium and the Netherlands, and I’m sure the German blog will show promising signs in the months and years to come as well.

Because I only work with brands and companies that I trust myself, my readers know they can trust my opinion.

I am always loyal to my advertisers. This is how you start a long-term relationship that is built to last!

Do you have upcoming promotions, launches, or exciting news you’d like to share?

Due to the omnipresent corona pandemic, the travel industry has of course come to a standstill. That’s why I have fewer big plans and less exciting news.

However, I didn’t do anything during these times! There is certainly a lot to do in my home country (Belgium) and our neighbors (Netherlands). And I was lucky because many of your advertisers are also active in these regions.

About a year and a half ago I started the German version of Check Out Sam. Due to Corona, this project has of course slowed down a bit, but it will certainly not be put in the freezer either! I’m really looking forward to growing further in 2021 and 2022. By the way, I will also implement Tradedoubler and their partners on the German blog.

Where do you think the affiliate space is going next year? What are the main market disruptions?

I think this is really hard to predict as new things keep developing or introducing.

What I noticed is that Last Touch mapping is becoming less of a standard. Each publisher is paid based on their position in the steps that lead to an actual sale. Personally, I really think this is a big step forward. That way the whole process is more honest in my opinion.

Something I’m (a little) worried about is the news that certain internet browsers want to work without cookies in the future. On the one hand, I understand that this is better for the consumer, on the other hand, I wonder what will replace them.

However, I also believe that you will find a great solution and that I don’t have to worry about it at all!

What do you like best about affiliate marketing?

I really enjoy having so much freedom. I can work whenever I want, from wherever I want and I decide how much time I spend behind my computer screen.

Since pretty much everything is done online, it’s never a problem when I’m abroad. There, too, I can still work on my websites, solve problems or work on new tasks.

It’s also great that there are so many options. Affiliate marketing is really available in every industry and that’s why I always find new ideas for collaboration. Additionally, I think affiliate marketing isn’t that intrusive compared to (most of) ads. I myself always choose websites or products that I also use and for this reason it feels really natural to include links to them on my websites.

What has been your greatest travel experience?

Pooh… It’s really not easy to choose just one experience! I’m really blessed because I’ve had so many great experiences and travel moments in recent years … And I really hope that I will have many more in the years to come!

Most of the time, it’s small moments that stay in my memory (a beautiful hotel, a fantastic restaurant, a unique museum).

If there is one trip that has blown my socks off from start to finish, it must have been my trip to South Africa.

There is so much to do and explore and it seems like one highlight was followed by another highlight throughout the trip.

I was also lucky enough to meet so many like-minded people. Fellow bloggers and journalists, but also those responsible for communication in a tourist office or company. Some real friendships have emerged from these frequent shared moments. This is of course another advantage of my job!

Is there anything else we want our advertisers to know?

Feel free to send me a message. I’m always open to a cool concept or brainstorming for original ideas.

I have no plans to quit anytime soon so maybe we can pave the way for a very bright future together!

Thanks, Sam, for the interview!
