“A lot of it was taken from my scrapbooks, and I have almost all of my diaries that show where we played and how much we paid for some of those jobs. Instead of going through all those 22 scrapbooks or something like that, I can give them a glimpse of everything by writing a book. “
The autobiography will also give fans of Mercey and The Mercey Brothers more information about their careers.
“I hope it gives people a chance to get to know me better,” he said. “People think they know me, but they really don’t know what I’ve done in those 60 years.”
Mercey, who now lives in Ilderton, Ontario, north of London, said he started writing the book on February 8, 2018 and finished writing the book in February 2020, just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit Ontario.
Have Mercey, published by TA Ryerson & Son Publishing of Woodstock, contains a lot of information about the formation and success of The Mercey Brothers, which released 18 albums, had several singles – including several that topped the Canadian country music charts – and were inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.
It also includes information about the country music industry, interesting and fun road stories, and anecdotes about the places and people that Mercey and The Mercey Brothers have met over the years.
Mercey was born on December 12, 1939 in Hanover and was the first child of Leonard and Cecilia Mercey. His brother Raymond was born 11 months later and the youngest brother Lloyd was born on December 12, 1945.
