Further native COVID testing websites opened in Gateshead

As coronavirus infections continue to rise, three new test locations have opened in Gateshead. These are located at Grassbanks, Leam Lane, Gateshead Central Library and the Blaydon Leisure Center. The sites are designed to provide simple and accessible testing to residents across Gateshead.

We strongly recommend anyone with coronavirus symptoms – a high temperature, a new persistent cough, or a loss or change in your sense of smell or taste – to get tested right away, as early diagnosis will prevent further spread. Anyone with one or more of these symptoms should book a test at nhs.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119.

The locations are conveniently located so that they can be reached by car, but only for yourself or with other people in your household. Subjects tested must adhere to public health measures, including social distancing, not traveling by taxi or public transport, good personal hygiene, and wearing face-covering at all times, including when driving to and from the test center.

Everyone who takes part in an appointment at an accessible test site receives instructions for safe transport to and from the test site as well as additional support for vulnerable groups and people with disabilities.

All test sites accept bookings between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily. The websites are expected to be available for at least three months.

Anyone who tests positive for the virus in England will be contacted by NHS Test and Trace to trace their contacts. This helps people identify who they may have been in close contact with and protects others from further transmission.

Close contacts of those who tested positive will also hear from NHS Test and Trace, asking them to stay home for 14 days to prevent them from unwittingly spreading the virus. They are also advised to book a test if they develop symptoms.
